"MARC data saved but fields are not updating on the record"

1 min read 11 views

When you save MARC data, the system automatically syncs key fields back to the bibliographic record (ISBN from field 020, title from 245, language from 041, classification from 050/082, publication year from 260/264, and page count from 300).

If the record is not updating after save:

Check the MARC field and subfield codes

  1. Reopen the MARC Editor for the record.
  2. Verify the field tag is correct. For example, ISBN must be in field 020, not 021.
  3. Check that the correct subfield code is used. For title, it should be subfield a in field 245.

Try saving again

  1. Open the MARC Editor.
  2. Make a small change (add a space and remove it).
  3. Click Save again.
  4. Reload the bibliographic record page to check if the fields updated.

Check application logs

If the problem persists, ask your system administrator to check the application error log around the time of the save. The sync may have failed silently due to a format validation error in the MARC data.

When to escalate

If MARC data is consistently not syncing after multiple save attempts, escalate to your system administrator with the bibliographic record ID and the field tag that is not updating.
